Metal oxides are considered as essential materials in industry due to their wide range of magnetic, thermal, chemical, and electronic properties. Chromium oxide is an important component for industrial applications due to its wear resistance and high temperatures. In addition, it can form various stable oxidation states. Chemically, chromium has various stable oxidation states. However, special attention has been paid to chromium(III) oxide due to its versatility and intrinsic properties. The main reason for the development of chromium oxide nanoparticle synthesis methods is their multiple applications in various fields of industry and science, i.e. in heterogeneous catalysts, green pigments, coatings for thermal resistance and corrosion. Studies have shown that nanoparticles and nanocrystals of inorganic solids have properties that lead to improved and new behaviors that are not present in their higher particle sizes. The novelty and quality of nanoscale-based properties directly depend on particle size, crystallization morphology, surface area, and nature.

Due to the higher surface to volume ratio, these nanoparticles cause more coating in colors and increase transparency compared to the micron scale. It also reduces the temperature of sintering in colored glazes and creates antibacterial properties in paints and inks.
